Details of my VSO volunteering experience in Zambia.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to read my blog ...
I am fortunate in working work for Welsh Assembly Government who have a 'Wales for Africa' program as part of their commitment to helping to achieve the UN Millennium Goals. Through this program I am going Zambia as a volunteer with VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas).
I set off in February 2010 for two months working as a Funding Advisor in Chipata, Zambia for a non-governmental organisation called Youth Development Foundation (YDF). I'll be assisting YDF with fundraising proposals, setting up donor maps and fundraising systems. My role will be supporting a YDF project called 'Taking Power' which works with young people on issues such as HIV/Aids awareness along with giving them skills on and a platform for taking action on Gender and Human Rights issues that affect them directly .
I feel privileged to be able to work with this organisation, albeit for a short time.
I am slightly apprehensive about the task ahead - I'm sure though, that the two months that I am there will fly by and will bring me huge amounts of enjoyment and not a little hard work.
Whatever happens, I hope to share it with you through this blog.

I have just reduced my phone subscription as I will not need so many minutes as I will not be using the phone to chat to you now we have this up and running!

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you arrived safely and that the weather is the same as in Wales ie rain but ours is cold,I'm sure it won't take long before you get into the swing of things, and i can rest assured you you will soon adorn one of your hosts with go Faster Sick to the passenger side of his car,am loving your blog so much so i may look at it again in a month or two,glad to see your enjoying living with the spiders and lizards,be good and speak soon Johnnie xxxxxxx
